Choice of Major Program in Sciences and Mathematics

After the completion of not less than 45 semester hours of course work, students should select major and minor programs and prepare an outline of degree requirements with the assistance of the Dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics and their departmental adviser. In order to be accepted as a major student in this College, a student must have attained a minimum C average for all work taken in the intended major department. All undergraduate major programs the College of Sciences and Mathematics lead to the Bachelor of Science degree.

Secondary School Certification in the Sciences

Students seeking state certification as science or mathematics secondary school teachers must earn a degree in the College of Sciences and Mathematics and satisfy the requirements for certification. They may do so by completing a minor in secondary education in the College of Education. Certifications in Life Sciences (Biology), Chemistry, Mathematics and Math/Physics can be earned. The Colleges involved are implementing the nationally recognized UTeach Model for teacher preparation.
